CONTOUR AND FLATTEN YOUR ABDOMEN BY REMOVING LOOSE, EXCESS FAT AND SKIN

A toned, contoured midsection is symbolic of health and fitness, but for some people, diet and exercise are not enough to achieve this goal. If you have loose or excess abdominal skin and fat, or muscles separated by pregnancy, you may be a good candidate for abdominoplasty, often called a tummy tuck. At Ace Plastic Surgery, Mombasa, our team specializes in tummy tuck surgery (abdominoplasty) and other body contouring procedures.

Women and men travel to Ace Plastic Surgery Clinic for tummy tuck surgery from East Africa and Beyond. Request a consultation online to meet with one of our plastic surgeons, or call our office at + 254 722 436 565 to schedule an appointment.

Benefits of a Tummy Tuck | Abdominoplasty

Having a toned stomach is one of the most common patient requests we receive Ace Plastic Surgery. The abdomen is one of the first locations to show signs of weight gain for many individuals. Excess skin and fatty tissue often develop in the abdominal area due to the effects of aging, pregnancies, and weight gain. Skin gradually loses elasticity and is stretched beyond its ability to contract following weight loss.

However, a tummy tuck surgery can address any and all of these concerns, improving the contour of the stomach, firmness of the muscles, and tightness of skin.

Below, we’ve included some of the advantages we’ve seen firsthand.

improved Appearance

Abdominoplasty surgery dramatically changes the appearance of your abdomen by sculpting the body figure to a more desired appearance. If you are struggling with your body after pregnancy or substantial weight loss, a tummy tuck might be just what you need to feel confident about your body’s beautiful appearance.

BACK PAIN RELIEF

Another benefit to an improved posture comes from the relief of back pain. As previously mentioned, posture-related medical issues, such as bulging or herniated discs, are on the rise. By improving your posture, you can reduce the risk of developing back conditions or improve your current ones, therefore relieving your back pain.

ENHANCED POSTURE

While a tummy tuck is not a standard method of improving one’s posture, it absolutely is a benefit of the procedure. As the core abdominal muscles are tightened, your back and spine will be better supported by these muscles, reducing the strain on the rest of your body and improving your posture.

EASIER TO EXCERCISE

With a newly sculpted abdomen and stomach, the activities that you used to love so much will become less laborious and more enjoyable. With a tighter tummy and the lower weight that results from a tummy tuck, it will be much easier to keep the weight off than before your surgery.

ACE TUMMY TUCK

Patients who gained or lost significant weight often have excess skin tissue around the abdomen which obscures their silhouette. Following a pregnancy, the abdominal muscles may also have loosened (abdominal muscle diastasis). Both issues can be corrected during an abdominoplasty procedure to improve the shape of the abdomen in this area.

What is a Tummy Tuck?

Dr. Peter Kansiime performs tummy tuck for patients who concerned about the redundant skin in their low abdomen. A tummy tuck is suitable for men and women who are in good health. Women who have had several pregnancies may find the procedure useful for tightening their abdominal muscles and reducing skin.

A tummy tuck is also an option for men or women who were once obese and still have excess fat deposits or loose skin around the belly.

For patients who only have a small amount of abdominal skin they want removed or who find that their abdominal area is beginning to sag due to aging will find that a minor abdominoplasty is extremely effective in sculpting their body into a more desirable shape. A minor abdominoplasty usually involves a smaller incision and a smaller section of the abdominal wall than a full abdominoplasty.

When Is A Tummy Tuck Performed?

Weight loss, pregnancy and even aging can be wonderful, but it often leaves you with a persistent loose flap of skin and stubborn fat that make your stomach stick out. A tummy tuck will get rid of that saggy skin, fat bulges and tighten up your stomach muscles for better tone and shape. Tummy tucks after pregnancy are extremely common. Evening and weekend consultation and surgery times available.

A tummy tuck will…

  • Eliminate loose, saggy skin in your mid-section.
  • Get rid of stubborn fat bulges.
  • Repair abdominal muscle separation.
  • Flatten out a pot belly.
  • Firm up love handles and a muffin top.
  • Reshape your belly button.
  • Erase stretchmarks below your belly button.
  • Give you better muscle tone and muscle definition.
  • Allow you to fit into clothes better.

Tummy Tuck Procedure

The procedure takes 2-6 hours. Those who undergo a mini tummy tuck can expect to spend 2 hours in surgery, while those who undergo modified, standard, or extended tummy tucks, with or without lipo and breast surgery, will be in surgery longer.

Abdominoplasty is a 3-step procedure. First, the contour of the abdomen is improved by repositioning the muscles of the abdominal wall. Second, excess skin and fat is removed. Third, liposuction is used to contour the abdominal wall and flanks. The incision required starts at the pubic hair line and extends horizontally towards each hip. The length of the incision depends entirely on the anatomy to be corrected and your goals. Some women combine a tummy tuck with a breast lift and liposuction to try to restore a more youthful shape after pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Initially, you will have a consultation with Dr. Peter Kansiime. Dr. Peter will:

  • Review your medical history
  • Specify any allergies to medications
  • Do a physical exam.
  • Discuss your expectations

Before the procedure, you may also need to:

  • Stop smoking
  • Avoid certain medications
  • Maintain a stable weight
  • Take medication to prevent complications
  • Arrange for help during recovery

Am I A Good Candidate For A Tummy Tuck?

Patients who are at or near their ideal weight but still struggle with excess skin around their abdomen are often ideal candidates for tummy tuck surgery. A tummy tuck is not designed to significantly reduce weight, though the procedure can be combined with liposuction to address small, isolated pockets of fat. Patients who have undergone significant weight loss may be good candidates for tummy tuck surgery. In addition, many of our tummy tuck patients are women who have had one or more pregnancies. Women who plan to become pregnant in the future should consider waiting before scheduling a tummy tuck. Though a pregnancy after the surgery should not cause any medical concerns, the results of the tummy tuck are likely to be compromised after an additional pregnancy.

A tummy tuck is a common surgery that is performed on a wide variety of patients ranging in age, size, and body type. All tummy tuck candidates must be in good overall health to minimize any risks associated with the procedure. Patients should either be non-smokers or cease smoking several weeks prior to and after surgery to further minimize risk.

What Can I Expect in My Tummy Tuck Recovery?

Following your abdominoplasty, some swelling can be expected; however, any discomfort you experience can be treated with medication. Your activity will be limited for the first week or two, but you should be able to resume normal, light activities after the first two weeks. It is important that you refrain from strenuous activities for several weeks to ensure proper healing. More details of your recovery will be discussed when you meet with your surgical team.

How should I care for myself after a tummy tuck?

  • Have someone to help you at home for at least 7 to 10 days.
  • The day after surgery, walk around slowly. This is to prevent blood clots to form in the legs as well as to discourage swelling.
  • Avoid doing heavy lifting for about four to six weeks.
  • You may be advised to wear a compression garment to control the swelling and reduce the chances of the abdomen sagging after a tummy tuck.
  • Have a follow-up check-up with your doctor five days after the procedure.
  • In case of any unusual discomfort, contact your surgeon immediately.

What Will My Tummy Tuck Scars Look Like?

You can expect scars after a tummy tuck. Although they fade over time, they do not disappear completely. However, you may use certain ointments and creams to improve the appearance of scars.

How Long Will the Results of My Tummy Tuck Last?

The results of your tummy tuck procedure should be long-lasting. The abdominal muscles will be tighter, and excess skin that was removed will not return. With this in mind, future pregnancy or weight fluctuations can compromise your tummy tuck results. This is why our plastic surgeons recommend women interested in tummy tuck surgery wait until after they have completed their families to undergo the contouring procedure.

What Risks Are Associated with Tummy Tuck?

Our experienced plastic surgeons use the latest tummy tuck techniques and state-of-the-art surgical technology to maximize your safety and comfort during the procedure. Prior to the day of surgery, patients are given comprehensive postoperative instructions on how to care for themselves in the following days. The details of any associated risks are thoroughly reviewed with tummy tuck candidates during the preliminary consultation.

Few days following surgery, you may experience pain and swelling around the treated area. Or Surgeons may prescribe you with pain medications and other instructions to alleviate the pain. You may also feel sore for several weeks or months after treatment. During recovery, you can also experience bruising, numbness, and the feeling of tiredness.

Tummy tuck poses certain risks and complications:

  • Infection
  • Blood clot accumulation
  • Bleeding under the flap of the skin
  • Insufficient healing

These complications are more likely to arise if you have:

  • Circulation problems
  • Diabetes
  • Diseases of the heart, lungs, or liver

Most importantly, The Ace Plastic Surgery team has various protocols in place to prevent complications from occurring.
