The fat is typically harvested using liposuction, and it is then purified and re-injected into the buttocks to add volume and improve their shape. The goal of a Brazilian butt lift is to create a more youthful and attractive appearance, with a fuller and more shapely buttocks.

The procedure can be customised to meet the individual needs and goals of each patient and may be performed in combination with other body contouring procedures.

What is a Brazilian Butt Lift?

The Brazilian Butt Lift is a fat transfer procedure, meaning Dr. Peter Biribwa removes unwanted fat from another area of the body, like the thighs or abdomen, and transplants it to the buttocks.

During the first part of the procedure, Dr. Peter Biribwa uses liposuction techniques to remove fatty tissue from the donor area of the body (commonly the stomach, abdomen or flanks). Then, the fat is purified and prepared for re-injection. Finally, small amounts of the fat are injected into the buttocks at various depths. Many of the injections are concentrated in the upper quadrant of the butt to give it a “lifted” or perky appearance.

Butt Lift Procedure

On the day of your Brazilian butt lift, you will be given a general anesthetic and your surgeon will proceed with harvesting fat from the donor sites and injecting it in the buttocks.

There are 3 steps to a successful BBL:

Suction the fat from its original location through liposuction (common choices include the thighs, abdomen, flanks, arms, back, and hips)
Purify the fat to reduce any extraneous fluid or damaged fat cells
Inject the fat in its new location, carefully avoiding injury to the deep muscles and structures of the buttocks

Inevitably, some of the fat will be reabsorbed by the body. However, our careful technique maximizes blood flow to the newly injected fat, which makes the body more likely to retain the additional volume. The additional volume that remains after 3 months will be long-lasting.

Are You a Good Candidate?

If you want to achieve a more defined and proportionate rear end, you may be a good candidate for a Brazilian butt lift. The procedure can be especially helpful if you have lost volume in your rear as you have aged.

During a Brazilian butt lift, Dr. Peter Kansiime will perform liposuction before injecting the excess fat cells into your buttocks. Therefore, to qualify for treatment, you must have sufficient fat deposits on another area of your body. You should also be in generally good health before you receive any type of cosmetic surgery. If you have an autoimmune disease, blood disorder, or related condition, this may affect your candidacy for treatment.

How to Prepare for Brazilian Butt Lift

In preparing for surgery, you may be asked to:

You should discuss your medications with us during your consultation. The doctor/nurse may have you stop taking certain medications prior to your procedure.
Do not smoke for at least two weeks before your procedure and two weeks after. Nicotine can compromise circulation and delay healing, as do many of the other chemicals found in cigarette smoke.
Drink a lot of water in the days leading up to your surgery.
Wear comfortable clothing on the day of your surgery, like a loose fitting top and bottoms with an elasticized waist.
You may need to avoid food and drink on the night before your surgery.

What Can I Expect in My Brazilian Butt Lift Recovery?

After surgery, the buttocks is usually swollen and bruised. You must wear a special compression garment to help control swelling, and take pain medication as prescribed to alleviate discomfort. You also must learn to sit or lay down without putting any pressure on the healing buttocks (you can place pillows under your thighs when sitting). The initial recovery period usually lasts two to three weeks, at which point you can resume most of your normal activities.

In most cases, you can return to work and your regular routine between two and three weeks after your surgery. However, you should continue to avoid strenuous activity until you receive approval. Following a butt lift, you will experience some swelling, and it will take several months for this inflammation to completely subside. Nevertheless, within two to six months, you should enjoy the final, stunning results of your treatment.

Is a BBL covered by insurance?

Generally speaking, Brazilian butt lift surgery is considered to be an elective cosmetic procedure, meaning that it is not covered by insurance.

What Will My Brazilian butt lift Scars Look Like?

The buttock augmentation by fat transfer does not require noticeable incisions since liposuction only requires the introduction of a cannula and the fat transfer is done with injections using a thin and more ﬂexible cannula.

How Long Will the Results of My Brazilian butt lift ?

The results of a Brazilian Butt Lift can last a lifetime. The surviving fat cells that have been transferred to the buttocks should never go away, meaning that the effects of a Brazilian Butt Lift should continue for many years into the future.

What Risks Are Associated with Brazilian butt lift?

Though uncommon, complications can occur with any surgery, including anesthesia-related risks and infection. The cosmetic surgeon will transfer fat into the buttocks during the procedure. Your body might reabsorb some of the fat cells, making your results less noticeable. Your cosmetic surgeon can reduce the risk by using the proper technique during the fat transfer. You can also do your part by wearing your compression garment and avoiding direct contact with your buttocks during recovery. Dr. Peter Biribwa is a is a double board certified licenced plastic surgeon in Kenya and Uganda, practising Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic surgery. He got his medical degree from the University of Nairobi. After serving as an intern and resident at the Kenyatta National Hospital and Aga Khan Hospital in Kenya, he completed his residency in Plastics, Aesthetics and reconstructive surgery at the University of Nairobi.
